JIMMY MARVIN

1984-2004

Jimmy William Marvin was a young man full of life and spirit.  He was the youngest of four children in the Marvin household.  Jimmy loved to be with his family and friends.  He also loved to play sports.  You could find him on a football or baseball field every season.  He also enjoyed playing basketball and bowling on Saturday mornings with his sister and brothers.

Jimmy was unfortunately diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing's sarcoma at the young age of 15.  He had to make very mature decisions of what to do to save his life.  Jimmy decided that amputating his right leg was the way to go.  He also spent many months at Children's Hospital of Detroit receiving Chemo for weeks at a time.

While in high school, Jimmy never gave up.  He rejoined the football team his senior year and played with a prosthetic leg in fall 2001, earning the nickname “OLB,” which stood for more than the outside linebacker position he played and even led to a Rudy-like chant at his final football game.

After high school, Jimmy attended Oakland Community College, where he was studying to become an Elementary School Teacher.  Unfortunately, during this time, his cancer came back in his lungs and he passed at the very young age of 19, on January 31, 2004.
